The course format is an effective combination of lecture, group activities and work exercises. PROBLEM SOLVING METHODOLOGY Form A Team - Explains "why" teams. Describes the types of teams employed in problem solving, roles and responsibilities of team members and support groups, and team development. A team building exercise is included. Understand The Problem - Explains the process of problem identification and analysis, and how to develop both written and visual problem statements. Identify Root Causes - Teaches the application of specific tools and techniques to enable the team to get past symptoms to the fundamental or root causes of the problem. Selecting and Planning The Solution(s) - Teaches the team to formulate ideas for problem solution and/or process improvement, select specific ideas to implement, and plan for the actual implementation. Implementing The Plan - Describes the process of implementing improvements on a task-by-task basis. It includes approval, communication, and the review and update process. Assess The Results - Provides a method for validating root causes, evaluating the solution, identifying new problems created and looking for additional opportunities for improvement. Institutionalize The Solution - Identifies the steps, which must be taken to insure that the problem does not reoccur.
