PERSPECTIVE The role of the sales and operations
planning process and master scheduling within a Business Excellence process is
defined.
DEMAND PLANNING The development of a demand plan which
identifies demand rates by product family is essential for effective top
management planning. The role of Sales and Marketing in the top management
planning process is defined. In addition, the mechanics to create a demand plan
process are explained and the monthly bookings review meeting is discussed.
OPERATIONS PLANNING Top management's response to the
demand plan is an operations plan which allocates limited business resources to
meet the best marketplace opportunities plan which allocates limited business
resources to meet the best marketplace opportunities. The operations plan sets
the rates of output by product family to meet the demand plan. The operations
plan is confirmed at the monthly operations review meeting.
MASTER SCHEDULING The master schedule is described as
the weekly/daily product mix to be produced. The master schedule is presented
as the master of all schedules in the business.
MASTER SCHEDULE CONCEPTS & MECHANICS Key elements
in the development of a master schedule are setting time fences, establishing
master schedule policies, promising delivery, entering orders, displacing
forecast, measuring performance and publishing results. Discussion includes the
policies that a company must establish as well as the procedures to operate the
master schedule.
RESOURCE REQUIREMENTS PLANNING AND ROUGH CUT PLANNING
Capacity planning, based upon the production plan and master schedule, is
presented along with proven techniques to confirm a valid master schedule.
PLANNING BILLS OF MATERIAL Planning bills of material
are presented with a focus on their relationships and importance to effective
master scheduling.
MAKE-TO-STOCK (MTS) The mechanics of the master
schedule in a make-to-stock product environment are presented with examples and
practice exercises.
DISTRIBUTION RESOURCE PLANNING The mechanics of the
master scheduling process with the addition of distribution inventory are
presented with examples and practice exercises.
MAKE-TO-ORDER (MTO) & ENGINEER-TO-ORDER (ETO) The
master schedule as it applies to each environment and the important questions
of planning material and capacity is shown through the use of examples and
practice exercises.
MANAGING WITH THE PRODUCTION PLAN & MASTER
SCHEDULE An important topic is knowing how to effectively manage the
business with the production plan and master schedule.
COMPANY ACTION PROGRAM All attendees will identify
company families and the necessary activities to develop the bookings review
and monthly operations review meetings. They also will develop a master
schedule for one family.
